How to Use an Online Ruler on Your Phone
Last updated: October 25, 2026 · By the TrueRuler team
To use an online ruler on your phone, open it in your browser, check that the status dot is green, and turn the phone sideways for a longer scale. A phone screen is small, so the ruler can only be as long as the screen is wide.
How long is the ruler on a phone?
| Phone screen (19.5:9) | Landscape width |
|---|
| 6.1 inch | 5.5 in (14.1 cm) |
| 6.7 inch | 6.1 in (15.4 cm) |
That is enough for coins, cards, screws and rings. For longer objects, use the printable paper ruler or measure in sections.
Steps
- Open the online ruler in Safari or Chrome.
- If the dot is not green, calibrate with a bank card (85.60 mm wide).
- Choose cm, mm, inch or px in the toolbar.
- Hold the object against the screen edge, or press Measure and drag the box with your finger.
- Use Show an exact size to display a length such as 3 cm.
Tips
- Keep browser zoom at 100% and avoid pinch-zooming.
- Take off thick screen protectors or read straight on to avoid parallax.
- Safari can clear saved settings after about a week without a visit; recalibrating takes seconds.
